Artificial Intelligence (AI) leaped from the pages of science-fiction into reality. Intelligent robots are a scary thought for many, but AI has already has done some pretty cool stuff.  Today it's been used to develop drugs and detect cancer. AI will help a world that needs constant innovation, it will help the few brilliant minds resolve the problems that they don't have time to focus on.  Rainer Zinow the godfather of  SAP Business ByDesign is laying out his Vision and delivering functionality where Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will deliver organisations with streamlined operations allowing businesses to focus on their own competitive edge, whilst Netsuite Customers wait for a pretty UI!

Firstly, what is an AI program?

AI isn't quite what the movies suggest - it still needs a helping hand from humans. Unlike machines and software that are designed to repeat the same task, AI software works more like our own brains and is capable of “learning”. Known as "machine learning", programs are fed information and from there they begin to recognise the patterns within data.

Once a pattern or a series of patterns is understood, the software can produce what it determines to be the next logical step. For example, if we gave AI a list of recipes to make bread and it could create an entirely new loaf. Sometimes these amazing - others will be bland. By adding a sprinkle of deeper understanding from a chef like Heston Blumenthal it is possible to streamline the process of making brilliant bread.

Can a robot write a symphony?

Yes, and there are already robots that can produce sheet music that has been performed and recorded by people. A recent development called Aiva (Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist) has been designed and it now creates beautiful classical pieces. Created in Luxemburg, Aiva used classical composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Bach to take the next logical step. The software identifies the relationships between notes and how compositions are constructed, it even understands the emotional response caused by these sounds. Ultimately, AIVA has used this library to produce its own classical compositions. Now I'm no expert but listen to the following piece.

Aiva has also released two albums already - “Genesis” and “Among the Stars”.

If a Robot can write a Symphony what can Rainer and his team do for you?

SAP has been laying out their vision for customers today and the future is looking – Intelligent. That’s the buzzword that informs much of what SAP is up to at the moment. But refreshingly there is a concerted effort to cut through the hype and come up with innovations customers actually want to use.  Rainer Zinow the godfather of  SAP Business ByDesign is laying out his Vision and talking about how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will deliver organisations with streamlined operations allowing businesses to focus on their own competitive edge.

Rainer has already delivered elements of the intelligent enterprise into the latest release of Business ByDesign.  The next step is a Machine Learning initiative which features a picture recognition algorithm for speeding up invoice processing, neural linguistics.
